What is rigid box?

Rigid boxes, also known as set up boxes, are commonly used to package high-end goods. They are usually four times thicker than a standard folding carton. Rigid boxes are bundled in the lavish paper of your choice rather than being printed directly.

As the name implies, they are strong and sturdy. An iPhone packaging box, a shoe box, board games, or high-end spirits and food products are all good examples.

What is the process of making rigid boxes?

The rigid box’s construction will be solely dependent on the manufacturer. Some are made by hand, while others are made by machines, and still others are a combination of both. They’re just sheets of chipboard at first. Color the chipboard to match the inside of the box or make it look like a newspaper.

Using the cutting and scoring dye, cut the chipboard. Fold the box sides up at the score areas to complete the form of the box. Tape the sides with a quad stayer to keep them in place.

Prepare the wrap by printing it and trimming it to the exact dimensions of the box. Place the container on top of the wrap and secure it with glue.

Depending on your preference, you can make the wrap tight or loose. Previously, rigid boxes were hand-made; as a result, they were loose and allowed for some breathing space; as a result, they were expensive and looked luxurious. Many are now machine-made, and the wraps are extremely tight.

Styles of Rigid Boxes

A lid and a base are included in the rigid boxes. Their sizes and shapes vary depending on the individual’s preferences. A rigid box is classified in the packaging industry based on the type of lid used.

  • Telescope lids—these lids usually cover a portion of the base or the entire base.
  • Hinged lids—in this case, the lid is permanently attached and closed with a ribbon binding, a magnetic strip, or gravitational force.

Because rigid boxes come in so many different shapes and sizes, it’s nearly impossible to cover everything there is to know about them. Rigid boxes aren’t just for the luxury but can also be used to protect products from harsh weather and ensure their durability during transportation.

The consumer may re-use the boxes to store some of their belongings around the house in some cases. They have more value because of the rigid box.
